Your Spouse Can’t Be Your God — And That’s Good News
When we quietly expect a spouse to heal our deepest wounds or satisfy our deepest longings, we place on them a weight only God can carry.
The Job Your Spouse Was Never Given
Your spouse was called to love you, not to complete you. They can offer companionship, support, and affection, but they cannot be your source of identity, peace, or ultimate security. Those are God-sized roles. When we confuse the two, even a good marriage starts to feel like a disappointment.
Resentment often grows in the gap between our expectations and reality. We think, “If they really loved me, I’d never feel lonely, afraid, or uncertain.” But even the most loving spouse cannot calm every storm in your heart. Only God can speak to the deepest places of fear, shame, and longing—and stay there perfectly, constantly, faithfully.

Time alone with God lightens expectations we unknowingly place on a spouse.
📌 A Ripple to Remember: Don’t resent your spouse for failing a job they were never assigned. Let God be your source, and let your spouse be what they were meant to be—an imperfect, precious gift, not a substitute Savior.
